AirDroid - Android App

The AirDroid Android app allows you to fully manage and control your Android device from a web browser, over-the-air.

  • Version: 1.0.2 beta
  • Size: 2.61MB (no apps2SD)
  • Category: Tools
  • Price:Free
AirDroid is an incredibly powerful, free tool formanaging your Android device from a computer(and is much more sophisticated than apps/services you might have come across). To get started, make sure you’re connected to WiFi and click Start. Next, AirDroid will instruct you to visit a specific web address (related to your IP so you can bookmark it) from the computer you’d like to manage your Android device from and enter the password provided. Then, behold the spectacular browser interface which is the portal to your Android device. From the web interface you can check and send text messages, browse/install/remove apps, manage/transfer files on your device, view contacts/call log, listen to music files, view photos, and more. AirDroid iscompatible with most modern browserslike Chrome, Firefox, and Safari (however, IE is not recommended). On the right side of the desktop interface you can access details about your Android device like internal/external SD availability, number of SMS messages, contacts, photos, etc. While it may be a bit of a stretch, it would be awesome to have data and minute usage (among other carrier information) linked here as well. In addition to the web interface, the AirDroid Android app itself is extremely useful all on its own. Along the bottom of the app you’ll find a side-scrolling ribbon with icons for the the most popular features. The “Device” icon displays the general statistics of your Android phone, the “Apps” icon lets you uninstall and otherwise manage apps and the space they take up. The “Files” icon provides file management functionality (delete, copy, cut, etc.) while the “Tasks” icon lets you view running processes, free memory, and cpu usage (with option to kill said processes). The latter two features mean many of us can ditch single-function file managing and task killing apps. The best part about this Android app is that even though it’s currently labeled beta, itworks flawlessly“out-of-the-box” and doesn’t require any real setup.

Pros:
  • Access and control your Android device from the web
  • Send SMS messages, import/export SD card files, manage tasks, etc.
  • Beautiful, impeccable interface and minimalistic design
  • Consolidates functionality that used to require multiple apps
Areas for improvement: *.Nothing worth mentioning here at the moment Conclusion:AirDroid is an all-in-one, web-based Android device manager with the features, interface, and polish you’d expect of expensive software, not a free app. A must-have Android app!
