Similar to the iPhone 5S and the HTC One Max, the Vivo XPlay 3S is mounted with a finger print sensor. It’s mounted just below the flash unit on the back of the device, and can be used to unlock the phone. The finger print sensor not only unlocks the device, but can also be configured to decrypt and encrypt sensitive documents. The screen resolution isn’t the only new tech debuting inside the XPlay 3S, as audio experts DTS have fitted the new DTS Headphone X audio chip, which provides cinema-style surround sound to match the cinema-style display. The device runs on a modified version of the Android OS which the manufacturer calls Funtouch OS.  Some of the additional software modifications done by the manufacturer include an app termed Photo+, which is a video sharing app that uses augmented reality to enhance videos. Other software enhancements include gesture assignment for contacts, mood-based music playlist, “air wake” gesture input to toggle apps, location-based reminders, City Show AR app (like Layar) to browse nearby offers, and a “timeline desktop” app that lists your photos and interaction with friends chronologically.

Unfortunately, Vivo doesn’t sell its smartphones internationally, so we’re unlikely to get our hands on this unique device; but that’s doesn’t mean we won’t be getting our own 1440p devices soon. The prime candidate to introduce the next level of smartphone screen tech to us is Samsung, and it could do so with the Galaxy S5 early next year. In the meantime, we can only look on with envious eyes at the Vivo XPlay 3S.

SanDisk Memory Zone app

The SanDisk Memory Zone Android app is a centralized hub for controlling, managing, and backing up your local device and cloud-based memory.
  • *.Version: 1.2.1
  • *.Size: 2.00MB (apps2SD enabled)
  • *.Category: Productivity
  • *.Price:Free
The SanDisk Memory Zone app supports your Android device’s local storage sources (e.g. internal memory and external SD card) as well as cloud services (e.g. Dropbox, Box, Google Docs, Picasa, and SugarSync). The app’s main page displays a list of all the memory sources/accounts you use along with their current usage/limits. By clicking on a specific memory source you can view a breakdown of exactly what’s being stored, like the number of files in categories such as music, photos, videos, documents, and apps. By swiping up and down you can quickly switch between your various memory sources. Furthermore, a list of each file can be viewed and sorted by its name or size in the file-type categories mentioned above (tap “A-Z” or “Size” to sort). Long-pressing a file brings up the options to move a file to your memory card, upload it to an online storage service, delete it, or make it private. Making a file private locks it with a password (which you’ll be prompted to create the first time), however, it’s important to mention it will not remove it from the file list view. Also, make sure to enable multi-select (in the Menu) for managing multiple files all at once. Pros:
  • Local device and cloud memory management
  • Quick transfer and backup of files between storage services
  • Elegant and efficient graphical interface
  • Lock and secure local files with a password

Areas for improvement:
  • Ability to view a list of files categorized as “Other”
Conclusion:The best Android app for managing and integrating your storage connectivity between your Android device, memory card, and files kept in the cloud.

AirDroid - Android App

The AirDroid Android app allows you to fully manage and control your Android device from a web browser, over-the-air.

  • Version: 1.0.2 beta
  • Size: 2.61MB (no apps2SD)
  • Category: Tools
  • Price:Free
AirDroid is an incredibly powerful, free tool formanaging your Android device from a computer(and is much more sophisticated than apps/services you might have come across). To get started, make sure you’re connected to WiFi and click Start. Next, AirDroid will instruct you to visit a specific web address (related to your IP so you can bookmark it) from the computer you’d like to manage your Android device from and enter the password provided. Then, behold the spectacular browser interface which is the portal to your Android device. From the web interface you can check and send text messages, browse/install/remove apps, manage/transfer files on your device, view contacts/call log, listen to music files, view photos, and more. AirDroid iscompatible with most modern browserslike Chrome, Firefox, and Safari (however, IE is not recommended). On the right side of the desktop interface you can access details about your Android device like internal/external SD availability, number of SMS messages, contacts, photos, etc. While it may be a bit of a stretch, it would be awesome to have data and minute usage (among other carrier information) linked here as well. In addition to the web interface, the AirDroid Android app itself is extremely useful all on its own. Along the bottom of the app you’ll find a side-scrolling ribbon with icons for the the most popular features. The “Device” icon displays the general statistics of your Android phone, the “Apps” icon lets you uninstall and otherwise manage apps and the space they take up. The “Files” icon provides file management functionality (delete, copy, cut, etc.) while the “Tasks” icon lets you view running processes, free memory, and cpu usage (with option to kill said processes). The latter two features mean many of us can ditch single-function file managing and task killing apps. The best part about this Android app is that even though it’s currently labeled beta, itworks flawlessly“out-of-the-box” and doesn’t require any real setup.

Pros:
  • Access and control your Android device from the web
  • Send SMS messages, import/export SD card files, manage tasks, etc.
  • Beautiful, impeccable interface and minimalistic design
  • Consolidates functionality that used to require multiple apps
Areas for improvement: *.Nothing worth mentioning here at the moment Conclusion:AirDroid is an all-in-one, web-based Android device manager with the features, interface, and polish you’d expect of expensive software, not a free app. A must-have Android app!
